Curriculum
We are proud to provide a rich and engaging learning environment where every child is supported to grow, achieve and thrive. Our programs are guided by the Victorian Curriculum and are designed to build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, while also nurturing creativity, curiosity and a love of learning.
English is a key focus, with students spending two hours each day developing skills in Reading and Viewing, Writing and Speaking and Listening. Mathematics is taught daily for one hour, building students’ confidence, problem-solving abilities and understanding of real-world applications. Learning is designed to be engaging and purposeful, with opportunities for students to explore, question and connect their learning to the world around them.

We believe that every student can succeed. Our teachers provide differentiated learning experiences to meet individual needs, ensuring all students are supported and challenged at their level. Through a caring and personalised approach, we work closely with families to support each child’s learning journey and help them reach their full potential.

Developing strong literacy and numeracy skills is at the heart of everything we do. Students are supported through structured and explicit teaching, along with opportunities to apply their skills in meaningful and creative ways.
Teachers use ongoing assessment to guide instruction and ensure every student is appropriately challenged and supported to make progress.

The Arts are a vibrant and valued part of our school.
We are fortunate to work with our visiting music teacher, Captain Pete, who runs an engaging three-hour session once a fortnight. Students learn to play instruments such as drums, guitars, keyboard, clarinet and glockenspiel, and participate in a drama production. Students work collaboratively throughout the year to prepare for a performance in Term 4.
Our students also benefit from the MACC (Mobile Art Craft Centre), which provides specialist art instruction, materials and inspiring creative experiences. In addition, the MARC (Mobile Area Resource Centre) van visits regularly, giving students access to a wide range of library resources and fostering a love of reading.

STEM learning is an exciting and growing part of our school. Students are encouraged to think critically, solve problems and work collaboratively through hands-on experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Our students have access to a wide range of technologies including iPads, robotics, Spheros, interactive whiteboards and a computer for every student. Through these tools, students explore coding, design thinking and digital creation.
Technology is embedded across the curriculum, and we are committed to teaching students to be safe, responsible and “cyber smart” through the eSmart program.

Our unique location on the shores of Lake Hume provides incredible opportunities for outdoor and nature-based learning. Students can experience activities such as fishing, kayaking, hiking and bush play—opportunities that many children do not regularly have access to. These experiences support physical wellbeing, environmental awareness and a strong connection to nature.
We place a strong emphasis on keeping healthy and active. Students participate in five physical activity sessions each week and have opportunities to engage in a wide range of sports and competitions.
These include events such as NERSSA athletics, swimming carnivals, cross country, and inter-school competitions like Kanga Cricket, tennis and t-ball. We are also proud participants in the Sporting Schools Program, which allows students to try new sports and develop their skills.

Students are introduced to Auslan (Australian Sign Language), developing their communication skills while building an understanding of inclusion and diverse ways of connecting with others.

Sustainability is an important focus at our school. Students actively participate in recycling, gardening and composting programs. Food scraps are collected and used as compost, with students taking responsibility for maintaining these systems and learning about caring for the environment.
